in 1965, The San Antonio Choral Society is an 80-person mixed-voice
community chorus, open to adult and talented high school singers.
The mission of the choir is to foster the joy of choral music by
providing an opportunity for men and women to perform a wide range
of innovative and diverse programs in a variety of venues, and to be
a visible and viable part of the San Antonio arts community.
Recently, the ensemble has performed such choral masterworks as
Mozart’s Requiem, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Duruflé’s Requiem,
Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Britten’s St.
Nicolas, John Rutter’s Mass of the Children, Robert Rays’ Gospel
Mass and premiered new commissions by Jerome Malek, Leslie Hogan,
and James Syler. Pops concerts have included music from the Beatles,
Hollywood movie classics, Gilbert and Sullivan, and the Broadway
stage. We have collaborated with local and nationally-recognized
musical artists to provide unique and high quality performances in
the San Antonio community, and have been featured at numerous events
such as Luminaria, the return of the Travis Letter to the Alamo, the
Oblate School of Theology Commencement, Spurs basketball games, the
New Year’s Eve Celebration at Sea World, and the Texas Choral
Directors Association annual convention.
